Tessellation Art for Kids - Math Day
Create a colourful tessellation artwork using painted geometric cardboard pieces. A tessellation is an arrangement of flat shapes that completely covers a surface without any gaps. Children will explore repeating patterns and geometric arrangements while developing spatial reasoning, colour coordination, and creative thinking to create a vibrant masterpiece.

Steps to Create this Activity

Prepare the Base
Take a corrugated cardboard sheet and use a pencil, ruler and compass and construct a square and an equilateral triangle with the same length of sides. Create a pattern by repeating the shapes to create a seamless pattern.
Paint the Pattern
Paint each geometric section in bright colours using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours. Allow the paint to dry completely.
Cut the Shapes
Carefully cut out all the painted geometric shapes along the drawn outlines. Arrange the pieces neatly to prepare for assembling the artwork.
Arrange the Design
Place the painted geometric pieces on another corrugated cardboard sheet and arrange them to recreate the tessellation pattern.
Stick the Shapes
Stick each painted piece onto the base using Fevicol Glue Drops, ensuring the shapes fit together neatly to maintain the repeating pattern. Press all the pieces firmly into place. Your colourful Tessellation Art is now ready to display!
