Senaka Jug Activity for Class 5 | Nature-Inspired Art Project - Activity Single - FeviCreate
Senaka Jug
Art can celebrate nature and help us reflect on our relationship with the environment. Sri Lankan artist Senaka Senanayake uses vibrant colour and dynamic compositions to highlight the beauty and fragility of the rainforest. In this project, students will create 3D jugs inspired by his paintings – transforming ordinary shapes into joyful symbols of biodiversity and care for the planet.

1. Introduction & Artist Talk
Show Senaka’s rainforest paintings. Prompts for discussion about colours, shapes and messages about the environment.
2. Draw Senaka-Inspired Designs
Lightly sketch tropical plants, parrots, flowers, and leaves directly onto the paper you will use to make the body of the jug. Then outline and colour boldly.
3. Make the Jug Form
Roll a sheet into a cylinder for the jug body and secure the edge with Fevicol. Cut a small wedge at the top to create a spout from another sheet of paper. Attach a handle made from another piece of paper.
4. Create and Attach the Base
Trace the bottom of the cylinder onto card or doubled paper, then draw a larger circle around it. Cut it out and snip tabs up to the inner circle. Fold the tabs upward, apply Fevicol, and insert into the bottom of the cylinder.
5. Share and Display
Students give their jug a name and describe the inspiration. Create a classroom exhibit.
