Help two hungry monkeys solve their math problems! This interactive tool uses a write-and-erase OHP strip and movable paper-clip bananas to visualize subtraction. By physically removing bananas from the thread, kids can see exactly how numbers decrease.

Steps to Create this Activity

Assemble the base

Pick the A-4-sized corrugated sheet as the base.

Draft and Design

Draw two monkeys, bananas, paper clips, and math boxes with subtraction signs on an A4 sheet. Cut them neatly to prepare the interactive monkey subtraction activity board.

Colour and cut

Bring your drawings using YUDU Brush Pens. Paint the monkeys brown and the bananas bright yellow. Once dry, cut out the monkeys, the bananas, and the math symbol boxes.

Create the Strip

Stick the monkeys on the top corners of the corrugated sheet and thread the cobbler string through side holes. Hang the bananas with paper clips and paste the OHP sheet and math boxes at the bottom.

Solve and Learn

Use a YUDU black brush pen to write a subtraction problem on the OHP strip. Have the student count 5 bananas on the clips, then slide away 2 bananas.
