Make DIY Christmas Crackers

Kids create a festive, functional Christmas cracker using tissue paper rolls and custom-patterned paper made with a foam stamp.

Steps to Create this Activity

Let’s prepare the base

You will need one long paper towel roll and another tube cut in half to create two shorter end pieces. Arrange them horizontally as shown.

Join the rolls

Cut a thin, long strip of corrugated sheet. Stick the corrugated strip along the top to connect all three tubes together.

Cover the rolls

Take a piece of plain white paper and paint the entire surface a solid red shade using Fevicryl Acrylic Colours.

Create a stamp

Take a foam sheet and cut it into the shape of a small Christmas tree. Cut a small piece of corrugated cardboard and stick it to the back of the foam sheet with Fevicol MR to create a grip.

Make the wrapping paper

Apply green paint to your foam tree stamp and press it onto the red painted paper in a grid pattern. Use white paint and a fine art paintbrush to add small snow dots to the spaces around the trees.

Stick the paper

Once the paper pattern is dry, wrap it around your assembled internal tube structure. Stick the paper with Fevicol MR.

Final touchups

Finish the cracker by tying golden ribbons around the gaps between the internal tubes. Your traditional Christmas cracker is ready.
