I Am More Than What You See

Our identities are shaped by many things - our values, beliefs, emotions, culture, relationships, and community. In this mixed-media collage project, students will explore and express who they are using abstract art, writing, and photography. They’ll use shape, Colour, texture, and words to create a meaningful artwork that celebrates personal development and human connection.

Reflect and Write

Guide students through prompts about identity, values, culture, and more. Type or write their responses, print them, and cut into strips.

Create Abstract Background

Use YUDU Gel Crayons to draw expressive lines and shapes that represent thoughts or emotions. Use YUDU 3-in-1 Colour Pencils to add shading and colour to the background. Blend by brushing lightly with water where desired.

Assemble Collage

Using Fevistik Power, attach the side-profile photograph neatly on to the background. Arrange the writing strips so they appear to flow from the mouth or hand. Add outlines and finishing touches with YUDU Gel Crayons, then blend with a paint brush to give a smooth watercolour effect.

Take Side-Profile Photographs

Photograph each student from the side, pretending to blow or speak their thoughts. Print in black and white and cut out carefully.
