Steps to Create this Activity

Draw the Butterflies

Draw six large butterflies on one sheet of white chart paper and six smaller butterflies on another sheet using a pencil.

Colour the Shapes

Colour the large butterflies light pink and the smaller butterflies purple using Fevicryl Acrylic Markers. Allow the colours to dry completely.

Cut the Butterfly Designs

Cut the smaller butterflies out completely using scissors. Cut only around the wings of each large butterfly, leaving the centre attached to the chart paper.

Raise the Wings

Gently lift and fold the cut wings of each large butterfly outward to create a raised three-dimensional effect.

Add the Smaller Butterflies

Stick one small purple butterfly at the centre of each large butterfly using Fevicol Glue Drops.

Prepare the Lantern

Wrap the butterfly chart around the recycled plastic bottle and secure the edges using Fevicol Glue Drops. Attach the silver cord at the top to make a hanging loop.

Finish the Lantern

Place an LED tea light inside the bottle. Your New Year Butterfly Lantern is now ready to brighten the celebration.
