Diwali Lantern

Kids can easily make a fun Diwali lantern using colourful paper. Use candy sticks to build the simple frame and join the paper sides together. This is a simple yet unique art to make on diwali for decoration.

Cut the borders

Step - 01

We will learn how to make a lantern for Diwali. Take the corrugated sheet and cut 4 equal square borders of the same. Measure the cut the borders slightly bigger than the size of the paper.

Paint the borders

Step - 02

Once cut out, paint it with Rangeela Tempera Colours Unicorn. Let it dry. Stick the white paper inside the borders and stick it with Fevicol MR. Let it dry. Do the same with all four cutouts.

Take the base

Step - 03

Take 4-5 plain white paper to paint and prepare the base.

Paint the background

Step - 04

Draw diya shape on each paper. Take the toothbrush and dip it into paint and water then spray paint the background. Avoid painting the space for diya. Let it dry.

Take the fabric

Step - 05

Take a red coloured fabric or any other colour fabric that you have. Draw the shape of a diya on it with pencil. Cut the shape using scissors.

Stick the fabric

Step - 06

Take Fevicol MR and stick the cutout of the diya on the drawing. Similarly, make three more spray painted paper and stick the diya. Let it dry.

Paint the fabric

Step - 08

Take Rangeela Tempera Colours and paint design on the fabric. You can mix light colours with a few drops of dark shades to attain light shades and paint the borders . Let it dry.

Assemble thread and fabric

Step - 09

Take some fabric and cut it into circles then cut it in two semi-circles. Fold the fabrics and stick it with Fevicol MR to make the shape of the tassels. Refer to the image.

Attach the borders

Step - 10

Stick all the four borders with Fevicol MR. Take the corrugated sheet and stick all the four papers as four sides of the lantern.

Finishing touch and final look

Step - 11

Take tassels and stick them below the corrugated sheet. Collect some thread and tie it on the top four borders of the corrugated sheet. Hang it on the wall. Your Diwali lantern is complete!
