3D Dancing Dolls for Navratri

What comes to your mind when you think of Navratri? Playing dandiya, dressing up in traditional outfits, and more. Everyone dresses up in traditional clothes that shimmer as they move. Let's explore these festive customs by designing our own 3D dancing miniatures that look like they are spinning on the dance floor!

Steps to Create this Activity

Set up the base

Let’s get ready to bring our festive dance scene to life! Start by taking thick white card paper. This sturdy paper will act as a strong base for our colourful dancers.

Draw the figures

Sketch the front and back views of a girl and a boy holding Dandiya sticks. Right next to them, draw large concentric circles which will be flared skirts.

Paint the sketches

Paint the outfits and the concentric skirt circles using Rangeela Tempera Metallic Colours.

Cut the figures

Take your scissors and cut out your painted figures and the large circular skirt templates along their outer pencil borders.

Add the 3D Flare

Make small straight cuts from the outer edge towards the center along the diagonal lines to make the skirts look bouncy. Collect a few paper straws and toothpicks for the next step.

Assemble the figures

Poke a toothpick through the center of the flared paper skirt and slide a small piece of toothpick over it. Take the paper straw and cut it into three slits. Use Fevicol MR to glue the skirt to the three slits diagonally.

Final Look

Cut a corrugated sheet into two square pieces for the base. Push the bottom of the toothpick into two stacked square pieces of corrugated cardboard to create a sturdy stand. Your dancing Navratri figures are ready to spin!
